About illness, grief and shame

Together with Romanian therapist colleagues, I have written a book on shame entitled “Shame. Expression, experience and healing through the therapeutic process. ” In my chapter entitled “Illness, grief and shame in relationships” I unfold how everyday life is not only changed beyond recognition when a family member is affected by a serious illness, but also that relationships and self-images can be under considerable pressure. My particular focus is how the feeling of shame can be woven into the grief, and how patients, relatives and survivors deal with shame during and after serious illness. How shame doubles the social and emotional strain of being afflicted with serious illness, and how I work with shame in the therapeutic process. Unfortunately, the book is (yet) only available in Romanian!
